1. COURSE OBJECTIVES

The course is intended to introduce students to the study of history and to the useful skills of the historic method of inquiry and analysis through application of critical thinking.  A key assumption of this course is that an understanding of the past is crucial to understanding the present because solutions to familiar problems are influenced by culture, geography, economics, and politics, all of which have influenced, or have been influenced by, past events.
