1. COURSE OBJECTIVES
Upon successful completion of the course student should:
- Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of key concepts, major theories, and important issues of IPE. An understanding of the ways in which IPE is conceptualized. The students will be introduced to the liberal, realist, and Marxist/ alternative perspectives to provide a more focused economic overview of the underlying issues and competing ideologies that shape our world.
- Know basic elements of political economy and their application to contemporary political and economic debates, explain and evaluate the major strengths and weaknesses of different economic development strategies
- Comprehend diverse theoretical perspectives on political economy issues.
- Apply these theoretical perspectives to empirical material, apply major theories and perspectives of IPE to be able to explain and interpret contemporary issues in global political economy.
- Develop an understanding of substantive issues of the politics of international trade, monetary relations, finance, economic development, and globalization.
