1. COURSE OBJECTIVES
On completion of this course, students should be able to:
– Master well instruments and methods to evaluate the situation of an industry through calculating and analyzing concentration indices such as CR and HHI.
– Apply game theory in analyzing competition strategies of firms through price competition and quantity competition.
– Understand how firms acquire and maintain market power, the importance of industrial policies, such as anti trust or competition policy, in regulating the market.
– Apply econometrics methods to work with real data about firms in Vietnam to understand which industries now have high concentration indices, the reasons for that, and if the entrance barriers exist in industries and how they affect the firms’ performance.
